Supported Independent Living (SIL)

What is SIL?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of NDIS-funded support designed for individuals with higher day-to-day support needs. SIL offers personalized assistance—covering everything from personal care and meal preparation to household routines—so you can live as independently as possible, every day and night, in a safe, supportive environment.

Supporting You to Live with Confidence and Independence

Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides NDIS-funded support to help people with higher care needs live as independently as possible.

  • Individualized Support Plans: Your support team collaborates with you to develop a tailored schedule or roster that reflects your preferences, daily routines, and goals.

  • Comprehensive Care: SIL may include help with hygiene, household tasks, medication, transport, and social/community engagement—depending on your needs and NDIS plan.

  • Types of Living Arrangements: You may live alone or with others in SIL-supported homes, chosen to suit your comfort and compatibility.

  • Tenancy and Housing: SIL providers typically coordinate your care; however, housing is often arranged separately through community housing or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers.

  • Built for Independence: SIL is not clinical care but aims to empower you to manage your life confidently—developing skills and routines that promote quality of life and independence.

You’ll need NDIS funding specifically allocated for SIL. A support coordinator (if available) can help set up your roster and locate a suitable provider.

  • Accurate & Program-Specific: Avoids confusing SIL with tenancy or generic housing assistance.

  • Concise & Clear: Breaks down complex info into digestible sections—great for users navigating their NDIS options.

  • Trustworthy & Safe: Includes clear labels about funding limitations (e.g., rent not covered), reducing user confusion.
